Instructions For Life

Psalm 119:105 – Your Word is lamp to my feet and a light for my path. (NIV)

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped for every good work. (NIV)

My husband is a do-it-yourselfer. One of his favourite sayings is, "When all else fails, read the instructions!"

We have "how-to" books of every kind around our house:

  • how to fix the car

  • how to build a deck

  • how to use the computer

  • how to knit and crochet

  • how to start your own business

  • how to use the VCR (and set the clock!)

  • how to raise your kids

  • how to fix a leaky faucet

  • and many more!

We, as Christians, also have a "how-to" book — God's inspired Word — the Bible. The Bible is God's instruction book for life. If we never read the Bible we are missing out on something. Simply reading it puts power in our lives. As we read, we begin to discover who God is and what God is doing in our hearts.

God speaks to us through His Word and

  • directs us,

  • challenges us,

  • warns us,

  • comforts us,

  • assures us.

Someone once said, "The Bible is the only book in the world, that when you read it, the Author shows up!" Let's not wait until all else fails, to read God's Word!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious gift of Your Word, the Bible. Inspire us to read it daily, so that we can come to know You better and learn "how to" live our lives in a way that is pleasing to You and brings glory to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
