Nuisance Versus Importance

Listen to this devotional:

Colossians 3:15b-17 – Always be thankful. Let the teaching of Christ live in you richly. Use all wisdom to teach and instruct each other by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with thanksgiving in your hearts to God. Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus. (NCV)

My normal calm, easygoing manner changed in the blink of an eye and the snap of a finger into that of a raging, stomping warrior! The clarion call went forth, and they all converged on my territory. They are no bigger than the period on this page, and they keep coming and coming from across the globe.

How can I stand against these odds? Who will go into battle with me? Certainly not my cats; they sit calmly observing my tirade. "God, help me here! I have more important things to do; this is not on my calendar for today and tomorrow and for however long this war will take." It happens every year; I am never ready for it; the infiltration of the ants will last for a season.

In the eternal scope of life, what is the lesson here? What am I supposed to learn? I truly have not completely figured this out yet; I'm working on it though. I pray, "God, help me!"

I know that He loves me and cares about all aspects of my life. While I am at home dealing only with the nuisance of ants, people around the globe are dealing with flooded homes, devastating tornadoes, earthquake disasters, and the pain of used and abused women and children.

The apostle Paul reminds us, "Do everything without complaining or arguing." (Philippians 2:14 NIV)

Prayer: Forgive us, heavenly Father, for our lack of focus on what is really important in life as You see it. We realize that we are blessed with much in order for You to show us how to share. Use us today, as You direct, to meet the needs of one of Your children. In Jesus' name, we humbly pray. Amen.
