1 Thessalonians 5:23-25 – Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God, who calls you, is faithful; He will do this. Dear brothers and sisters, pray for us. (NLT)
At the age of 98, mama was truly a prayer warrior. In the summer of 2008, I found myself for the third year sleeping on a cot next to my mama's bed and serving 24/7 as her caregiver. During this precious time in our lives, as we prepared for her home-going, we felt led by the Lord to focus our prayers specifically for our church's entire staff. Their task is vital to the spread of the gospel; they must be supported by our prayers.
These dedicated people sit behind desks; they visit in hospitals and homes; they walk the streets; they lead in worship and preach the Word. They seek to hear God's voice and instruct His people day after day, week after week, year after year. They are responsible for shepherding the flock and maintaining the house of worship; they keep the floors clean and empty the trash; they cook the meals and feed the hungry. They unlock the doors and pray for the lost to be brought in, that they may find reconciliation, salvation, and peace in the house of the Lord.
We pray for them to hear the call of God each day and to be obedient to His instructions. We must pray daily for them to be unified in Spirit and in truth. It would be helpful to let them know that we have heard the call to support them with our prayers. Let us consider reinforcing this call by sending them notes of encouragement.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we take seriously this important task You have entrusted to us Your children — who need shepherding. May we faithfully lift up our church staff to Your throne. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
