Priorities

Listen to this devotional:

Deuteronomy 17:19 – That scroll is to remain at his side at all times; he is to study it every day so that he may learn what it means to fear his God, living in reverent obedience before these rules and regulations by following them. (MSG)

Hosea 6:3 – We're ready to study God, eager for God-knowledge. As sure as dawn breaks, so sure is his daily arrival. He comes as rain comes, as spring rain refreshing the ground. (MSG)

First thing in the morning when I arise, I want to dash to the computer and read my e-mail. I want to see who has written. It could be a sibling; it could be a friend; it could be an acquaintance. Then I want to see what they have written. Do they have good news? Bad news? A victory to share? A discouragement to talk about? What is in the e-mail? Will it be news of family? Friends? Neighbours? Will they share a heartache? A concern? A triumph? What will it be? I am interested in hearing from others and sharing in their joys and their trials. I am drawn to reading my e-mail first thing in the morning. I delight in it. There are times when I have to be at work very early in the morning, so I have to dash out of the door before I read my e-mail. All day, I feel like something is missing. When I do arrive home, that is one of the first things I do. It is a priority in my life.

God sends me mail every day, too. I have it in my desk drawer, waiting to be read. It is new and fresh every day. I can read one portion today and learn something. The next day I can read the same portion and learn something new from it. I have a few different versions. Some portions are easier to understand in a different version. There are times when I run out the door before I have read God's message to me. Again, I feel like something is missing in my day. God wants to speak to me every day through His holy Word.

May we not neglect reading the message that God has sent to us. It is written in love. It shares joys, struggles, victories, heartaches, and discouragements with us. Oh, how we can relate to these messages that we are given by delving into the Bible. We can also receive His message by reading devotionals or doing a Bible study. Let's be anxious to hear from God daily. He is anxious to speak to us. Are we as anxious to hear from Him?

1 Chronicles 16:11 – Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your Word is written to us to help us along our journey. You tell us You love us, and that is so important to know. You give us instruction about how to live. You tell us of the struggles and victories of those who have gone before us, so that we can learn from them. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
