Proverbs 1:3-6 – A manual for living, for learning what's right and just and fair, to teach the inexperienced the ropes and give our young people a grasp on reality. There's something here also for seasoned men and women, still a thing or two for the experienced to learn — fresh wisdom to probe and penetrate, the rhymes and reasons of wise men and women. (MSG)
The arrangements were to take a recently-sold item to its new home. The driving directions were simple and straightforward. About three-quarters of the way there, we noticed the item moving off the trailer, so we stopped to adjust the load. Somehow in doing this, a wire between the trailer and the car became pinched and shorted out the connection between the car and the trailer lights, but we did not realize this at first. Once the load was again secure, we were ready to continue our journey — only the car would not go from park into drive! No matter how much we tried, the car would not move. Here we were on a very long and straight road with no homes to be seen — only the wild turkeys in the field. Many cars drove by. One even slowed just enough to ask if we needed a boost, but when he heard the car running, he drove on. While we were discussing whom to call on the cellular phone, my husband decided to try the car dealership. He told them what our problem was, and they agreed it was a fuse. He began to look through the owner's manual to find the fuse which had blown and thus was preventing the car from going into drive.
Once we had located and changed the fuse, we were on our way again. The owner's manual was placed back in the glove box.
How often do we turn to others for answers and direction when we have the Owner's Manual right at our finger tips with all the answers we will ever need? The Bible and prayer are all that we need to live our lives to the fullest. Yes, it is okay to seek counsel with others, but we are to keep in mind and near to us the Bible that contains all the answers.
Colossians 3:16 – Let the Word of Christ — the Message — have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! (MSG)
Prayer: Dear Father, we thank You for Your Word. We thank You that we are free to have the Bible in our possession and to read and share it in public. We are sorry for the times when we leave it behind or neglect to use it on our journey with You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
