Something Good Came Today

Hebrews 13:16 – And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. (NIV)

We all receive a lot of junk mail, either by the post or e-mail. In my mail, however, was something a friend sent to me, and I wish share it with you.

In the context of the letter were these lines:

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!

Then came the words, "Send this to people who have touched your life in a special way. Let them know how important they are."

I felt a special closeness, not only to the person who sent this message to me, but to God. In turn I wanted to share them with all my friends.

I wanted to forward this message, but it is not something I often do. So I have used these special words in a devotional for all to read and to ponder. My prayer is that we might use this one paragraph as a guide to Christian living. Let us think of the difference it could make in this world today.

Romans 12:9-13 – Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practise hospitality. (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we come to the throne of Your grace today. Draw us closer to you and to each other. Help us to be more like the people you would have us to be — caring, loving, thoughtful, patient. It is only through You we can have that hope and love to share. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
