Preparing For God's Future #7

Saturday, January 6, 2001

Isaiah 58:10 – If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness. (NRSV)

This is how we prepare for God's future. Celebrations for the millennium and the 125th anniversary of the Presbyterian Church will fade in time and memory. The Jubilee still stands before us as one of the crucial efforts and endeavours of the church in this future year and for many years to come. This third year of the Jubilee initiative calls us to right relations with the earth, and with Aboriginal sisters and brothers. Both are crucial questions and concerns in Canada, especially within the church. These are efforts that must occupy more and more of our moments and money and time and talents in the years ahead. Jubilee cannot be allowed to wither and die. Too many souls are counting on us to continue the efforts for debt relief, for fairness in trade, for a new world order based on the will and the way of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let's continue to celebrate jubilee in the new year. God's whole creation is waiting for what we do in word and deed.

Colossians 3:17 – And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father through him. (NRSV)

This is how we prepare for God's future!

Prayer: God, life-giver and lover, lead us into the future in covenant with Jesus Christ. Help us to help each other, Lord, each other's burdens to bear. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.
