Psalm 31:7 – I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. (NIV)
There are times when we feel down, and all seems to be going wrong. Those are the days when even friends seem to be far away. Usually it is the way we are thinking about ourselves. Nothing is going right.
I was thinking about this, when I glanced to my side and noticed a small card. It had been sitting there for three or four days and I hadn't dealt with it. I was meaning to type a reply and get it off in the mail. I re-read the note.
It was from a lady, distantly related, who is housebound in the winter. The more I read, the mellower I became. She lives alone and has arthritis quite badly. She had cancer years ago and still keeps going. She lost her husband some years back and she wrote me, wondering how my granddaughter, husband and I were. She has been through so much, and yet sent the most cheerful little card.
I think I have troubles? Thank God for such people. He plants them around us, like angels, to spur us on.
None of us is perfect. We know we should be able to shrug off these feelings of doubt and depression!? Yes, but it is only in the Lord: we can we reach out in prayer to Him and feel His touch.
Luke 6:18b-19 – Those troubled by evil spirits were cured, and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. (NIV)
Prayer: Let us but reach out in faith and touch You, O Christ, and be healed. Grant us the peace that only You can give. May our strength be in You alone. Amen.
