The Wiper

Listen to this devotional:

Psalm 111:3 – His work is honourable and glorious: and His righteousness endureth for ever. (KJV)

Have you ever noticed how older people love to go for a drive? My parents could hear car keys jingle like a child hears the ice-cream truck. So it seemed natural for his 90th birthday to take Dad for a seven-hour drive to visit one of his grandchildren.

Normally I'm alone when driving, so I replace the driver's-side wiper blade every couple of years, but not the passenger-side one.

On this trip, we didn't know that we'd go through three mountain passes in February. When the snow was coming down hard, I said to Dad, "Wow, your wiper's not cleaning that up very well." To which he replied, "I'm doing the best I can."

His sense of humour always tickled us, but the thought was a reminder. Often we try to do things we cannot do; but when we allow God to take over, it will be done well. We try so hard to do His job, when He requires us only to do the work He gives us.

John 6:29 – The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we know that only You are worthy of our faith and praise. We also know that You have given us the work of passing the word of salvation to others. Help us to be faithful. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
