James 1:17 – Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (NIV)
A huge weather "bomb" of a storm blew through our area for a full four days, dumping a record snowfall. As I shovelled out enough to take my Golden Retriever mix dog, Princess, out behind my home to do her business, I was muttering to myself about so much snow, the weight of it, the cold wind, and the general discomfort of my aching muscles, which are sadly out of shape.
When I finally got Princess on her lead and outside, her response was utterly different. Does she love snow! In spite of the constraints of her lead, she dug in the fluffy white stuff, sniffed it, ate it, rolled in it, leapt from spot to spot, and otherwise gambolled through hills of the white stuff.
There's a lesson in my dog's response to her circumstances. Just as she takes delight in the snow, we can also choose to take delight in God's gifts to us. God is generous in giving us so much, so that gratitude can well up within us to rejoice in all that the Lord has done for us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for all You have done for us, for all the wonderful gifts You have given us, for being there for us, for never changing in Your love for us. Thank You. For Jesus' sake, we pray. Amen.
