Genesis 1:24 – Then God said, "Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind — livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals." And that is what happened. (NLT)
Psalm 104:24 – O Lord, what a variety of things you have made! In wisdom you have made them all. The earth is full of your creatures. (NLT)
The movement caught my eye. I was getting out of my friend's car to go to our Bible study and was looking down to see where I could safely place my feet. It had been a long winter, and everything seemed so dull and grey and lifeless. Would spring ever come? I leaned forward to get a closer look. I saw a wee little spider. He was no bigger than my pinky fingernail.
What are you doing way out here on the road? I thought to myself.
Out loud, I said, "Oh look! It's a reminder that God hasn't skipped spring."
Why did I notice this tiny reminder? Did God know that I needed a pick-me-up? I believe that He cares about the tiny little details of life. If He didn't, why would He have bothered making forty to fifty thousand different types of spiders? From small ones, like the one I saw, to huge ones like the Goliath Bird-Eating Spider with a leg span of eleven inches or even more: He sprinkled them all over the earth, except for Antarctica, where, apparently, there are no spiders — a good place to live if you seriously don't like spiders!
Let us be thankful for our God who cares about the everyday things in this life — like a tiny black creature with eight legs who "happened" to show up at just the right time.
Prayer: Thank You, God, for creating our world so masterfully for our enjoyment. Help us to notice every tiny detail and give You the praise and the glory. Amen.

Saturday, May 18, 2024 – In North Africa — Living in North Africa we get so used to hearing the call to prayer it becomes like background noise and sometimes I don't hear it anymore. I am challenged by the fact that some Muslims are so committed to pray that they go to the mosque 5 times a day. Would you consider, with me, setting your alarm to go off at 3:00 every day and pray for these three things: 5 families to come to know Christ, 3 people for us to read scripture with,1 new church plant.
Housing: "Update May 16, 2024: Please continue to pray for T and her son A to find a different apartment...."

I enjoyed your devotional this morning, especially since I know exactly the weather you are referring to and cannot imagine a spider out there in the snow.
Thanks for sharing this devotional with us. That wouldn’t have been my reaction to seeing a spider. Nasty little things that bite injecting their venom. No thanks. Blessings anyway.

I am still trying to figure out how spiders, snakes, mosquitos, mice and bats are good! I don’t like any of those creatures. Yuck.

Yes! I heard a speaker once telling us there are thousands of microscopic helpers in the soil and saying we would not live long without them. And yet I know next to nothing about that. It is indeed a wonderful awesome world. Thanks be to God.

This was really good. I enjoyed it and a couple of weeks ago I came across a tiny spider, smaller than the eraser on a pencil, I have never seen anything so small. I agree God puts these things on our paths so show us He cares about every little detail and knows when we need a picker upper. God bless.

Thank you for writing. I want to add that for a short time we lived in Fort St. John, at that time a frontier town of 4000 more or less, most of us lived in shacks and house trailers, as we did.
I see from checking the internet that things have changed.
