Numbers 1:45-46 – All the Israelites twenty years old or more who were able to serve in Israel's army were counted according to their families. The total number was 603,550. (NIV)
This census of the Israelites who left Egypt did not include women and children, nor possibly 55,000 Levites. So if there were an average of one woman and two and a half children for every male over twenty, that would be three million people. If each person needed an average of one pound of food and one gallon of water each day, they would need 1,500 tons of food, 4,000 tons of fuel to cook it, and nearly 11,000 tons of water every day! If each family needed 500 square feet on which to pitch their tent, the area of their encampment in the desert would be 12 square miles!
Whew! How did Moses handle all that?
Psalm 105:40-41 – They asked, and [God] brought them quail and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and water gushed out; like a river it flowed in the desert. (NIV)
Moses did what he could and believed God for the rest.
Daniel 11:32b – The people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God]. (AMP)
What needs exist in your home right now? Does the electric, gas, or water bill threaten your future? Are groceries a little scant this week? Does your salary not stretch like it used to? Have the children stopped going to church or the parents suddenly need care? Have you lost a loved one?
What would happen if we applied "Moses'" faith to our own lives?
What if we asked God for provision and trusted Him to help us in some way?
What if we recalled those times when God did just that?
What if we trusted Him with our whole hearts, no matter the outcome, and told Him so?
What if…
Prayer: Lord, what if we trusted You, no matter what? Help us, Lord. Amen.
