God Didn't Leave Me

Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (NIV)

Five years ago, I had what I call "My Bad Year". It was a year when my life as I had known it fell about my ears. My mother died; my marriage ended. The furnace died in the house which I had purchased the previous September. This caused me to have the coldest week in years, and anyone who knows me will tell you that I don't like the cold. In the end, I had to replace the house. To top it all off, I had a fire that destroyed my possessions that were in storage, and my husband remarried within a week of the divorce. Yes, this was My Bad Year.

Going through all these trials was not as hard as it might have been, though, for I had today's verse of Scripture to cling to. I knew that God was with me, and this comforted me. Friends and co-workers could not get over the peace which I had that year. I could not get over it either.

Last year was another story. I was not close to God. I was trying to do things in my own strength, and my life and emotions were a mess. God had not moved, but I had. When we feel that we no longer need God, because we can work under our own strength, we do not have God's strength, and so we are open to mistakes and wrong thinking.

Prayer: Lord, keep us close to You. You know us, and when we rely on You, Your strength will not let us down. Keep us in the palm of Your hand today. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
