Hallelujah! He Is Risen!

Matthew 28:3 – The angel looked as bright as lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. (CEV)

I was as proud as a peacock strutting in my new Easter clothes — a gift from my sister, who died at a young age. Having always had hand-me-downs, I felt so special that I could go to Sunday School and show the other kids that I too could have an Easter outfit.

No matter how beautiful my Easter clothes were, they could not have looked as glorious as those worn that first Easter morning by the angel who spoke to the women to tell them that Jesus was alive — this Jesus who died at such a young age for our sins.

Matthew 28:5-6 – The angel said to the women, "Don't be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was nailed to a cross. He isn't here! God has raised him to life, just as Jesus said he would." (CEV)

The emphasis in our Scripture, however, is not on the clothing worn by the angel but of the resurrection — affirming that Christ was indeed risen and alive. Thankfully, today, there does not appear to be the same emphasis put on what we wear to church, but more that we do go to church, to worship our risen Lord, who has defeated death for all who put their trust in Him.

Matthew 28:6-7a – "Come, see the place where his body was lying. Now hurry! Tell his disciples that he has been raised to life." (CEV)

Hallelujah! He is risen! Let us all realize the importance of spreading the good news about the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Saviour, not just on Easter Sunday, but all year round. Let us shout it out to the whole world — a hurting world that needs to hear the Easter story so very much.

Prayer: Dear Father God, we thank You for the great gift of Your Son, Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins. May we feel special, not by what we are wearing, but by telling others the good news that Jesus is alive. In Jesus' name. Amen.
