Pass It On

Philippians 4:9 – Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

All my life, I have been blessed with older friends. Friends with older parents, friends with older kids. Friends with waaaay older knowledge than I. It is a beautiful way of learning without even knowing you are.

One such friend, with a busy life and four children of her own, was always there for me, and for all her other friends as well. She was especially kind when our children were very young. No matter what I did for her, it always seemed she was waaaay ahead in doing for me. She did not do the things she did for any sort of recognition, nor did she expect anything in return. She just did them.

I think she is "God-driven".

I brought the subject up once, early on, saying I could never, ever repay her for her kindnesses. Her prophetic words were simply, "you don't necessarily have to pay back the exact person. You can 'pass it on'".

Those words were spoken over twenty years ago, and it is something I strive to do. Her words are ones I repeat often, for in "passing it on", the God of peace is truly with us.

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, may we recognize those times each and every day when we can "pass it on". May we see and utilize the opportunity to do a "random act of kindness", put in an hour of volunteer work, walk an elderly person across the street, or even, Lord, simply "pass on" a smile. Through Jesus Christ Our Lord we pray. Amen.
