Psalm 119:130 – The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. (NIV)

My little horse Frank had never taken a journey in the horse trailer before. Therefore, I was very concerned about the 2000-kilometre trip to our new home that lay ahead of us.

The first step in preparing Frank for this ride was to accustom him to boarding the trailer. I coaxed, offered treats, tugged, and pulled. No way was he going in. An acquaintance solved the problem for me when she told me to start feeding him in the trailer. If his food were in there, he would eventually go in to eat and also come to see the trailer as a safe place — which is exactly what happened.

Now that I had him comfortable with the trailer, I wondered how he would actually deal with riding in the vehicle over the mountainous and often bumpy roads which lay ahead. Would he fall? Would he become frightened and begin kicking and thrashing about? There was really no way of knowing until the time came to get on the road.

Much to my relief, Frank was a wonderful traveller. I checked on him many times throughout our travels and came to see how he was handling it so well. When we climbed uphill, he planted his backside into the back corner of the trailer and leaned back. When we descended the hill, he remained in the same position but braced his front feet and also leaned against the side of the trailer for added support. What a smart guy! Here I had been worried about him!

Likewise, as we journey through life with all its ups and downs, we, too, can learn to be marvellous travellers by placing our faith firmly and securely in God's Word and in His faithfulness to His Word. The unfolding of God's Word in our lives gives us both light and understanding. It has the power to reveal how we should view the world and the various things that happen to us amid this life. It has the power to strengthen, stabilize, and brace us up as we choose to trust and employ it in our lives. The Word can transform fear into courage, sadness into joy, uncertainty into godly direction, worry into peace, despair into hope, hatred into love, and doubt into faith as we allow it to direct our thoughts and actions.

Frank turned out to be a wise and wonderful traveller. As we choose to plant our faith and will upon the truth of God's Word and His faithfulness to it, so shall we, too, become wise and wonderful life travellers — something that is exactly what we should want to achieve.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, for Your Word and the power that it can have in our lives. May we be wise enough to trust and apply it daily. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.

    Hello Lynne
Frank sure is a good horse, smart boy. Funny what we can learn from an animal and there it is in the Word also. Trust!!!!!
    God bless.

Lynne, your description of Frank’s journey and how your preparation for him is such a perfect illustration. God surely does provide us with all we need for our sometimes-hard trip through life. Frank was smart enough to accept your patient training, so he was prepared to trust you. This story really rings loud and clear in my heart. Thank you!

    Good morning, Lynn.

I just checked the map to see the route and you would have had a challenging trip with animals!!

How thankful we are that Frank can teach us lessons about how to live our lives with purpose as we surrender to the LORD’s help and guidance as we study His Word to us.
Your illustrations are so enjoyable and challenging. Thank you and may the LORD continue to give you meaningful messages to pass on to the readers.

Good morning, Lynne, and many thanks for another of your very mindful devotionals. You have a unique way of interweaving stories of interactions with your pets with ways we need interact with our loving Lord. Yes, Frank really was a wonderful traveller that day and we need be faithful travellers with the Lord in our lives to have the very best happenings. Blessings for your special writings and keep enjoying your new location.

Lynne, The way you prepared Frank for his long trip reminds me of God’s preparation in our own lives for coming challenges which he alone knows You knew what was ahead for Frank. And you knew just what he needed. I enjoyed reading how you carefully watched over him throughout the trip. That’s just like our Lord’s eye on us.
You’ve helped increase my appreciation of scripture as a means of preparation for our future, and also of God’s trustworthy guidance.

Thanks so much for your devotional about your wise little horse, Frank.
Having had horses over the years for our daughters, I could truly relate to the trailer loading issue. And I just learned about Tawatinaw, AB this spring. I live in AB and am a homeschool facilitator. My travels take me to many families in the areas I work. Many families ski and do gymnastics. I had never heard of various places before and now I really want to go and visit. How unique!
    Keep those devotionals coming!

Your devotion warmed my heart today. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Lynne. I particularly like this: The Word can transform fear into courage, sadness into joy, uncertainty into godly direction, worry into peace, despair into hope, hatred into love, and doubt into faith as we allow it to direct our thoughts and actions.

    Dear Lynne,
I looked at the map to see how far the two towns are.
My! What a trip it must have been! Frank had my utmost admiration for taking it so well! And how did the dogs fare? How many days were you on the road? From the map it looks like you travelled in a fantastically beautiful and wild part of the two provinces! Not to be undertaken by the faint hearted!
Thank you for sharing such delightful insights.

What a beautiful Devotional of trust and faith. You my dear are truly a Shepard with you caring devotions. Thank you,
    (Texas)
