Down But Not Out!

Monday, September 17, 2001 Rod Marshall

I am shocked but still I remain fully able to react. Through this internal mechanism, over which I have no control, I seem to be able to borrow from tomorrow's resources that which I need today to meet the present … Read more

I Am The Kiddie!

Friday, August 24, 2001 Rod Marshall

"I am the kiddie!" This was my raison d'être. One of the dangers in doing something I think is "worthwhile" is that I become focused on the task and allow myself to become distanced from God. We can see this … Read more

Tiger-Striped Bird-Eating Tarantula Spiders!

Friday, August 17, 2001 Rod Marshall

A man was an avid cactus collector. He bought a meter-tall cactus plant. He brought it back to Australia for his collection and planted it in the back garden after it had passed all the quarantine regulations. One day, when … Read more

In my youth the world finished at the end of my nose. The impact of love, healing and time have taken their toll and so rounded the edges. At least the edges have become rounded anyway. My wife and I … Read more

Have you ever seen some phenomenon in nature that could have been put there just for you? Years ago, I was awaiting the end of term, the end of my time in school and my exam results. I was more … Read more

The Dentist's Chair

Monday, July 2, 2001 Rod Marshall

I went to the dentist yesterday. I am allergic to pain, dentists and drills. I break out in a rash of anxiety. I have known the waves of fear to pound on my hull, held together only with hope, determination … Read more

Lemmings

Wednesday, June 20, 2001 Rod Marshall

I remember a cartoon once sent to me on a greeting card. The gist of it was a stampede of lemmings depicted running towards the cliff edge. In the middle of this scene of happy lemmings rushing towards their ultimate … Read more

Trust

Monday, June 11, 2001 Rod Marshall

Things did not work out with my first marriage. I suppose we grew up and the process changed us. It is strange to recognize that God forgave me, long before I forgave myself, or before I was able to trust … Read more

Double-Minded, Me?

Saturday, May 26, 2001 Rod Marshall

The Lord has prompted me, in the past, not to be double-minded. At the time, I was a bit hurt, and said, "Surely not I?" As far as I was concerned, I was not — in any way — double-minded. … Read more

Sometimes I Get Annoyed!

Saturday, May 12, 2001 Rod Marshall

The other day, I received a letter that sparked annoyance. Somewhere from within I was put in touch with this little boy that I carry with me from my earlier life. He is always there waiting. He hides around a … Read more

Worldwide Ministry

Pray
Monday, November 2, 2026 – In Uganda — After much preparation, 19 of our high schoolers travelled to Uganda for ministry. One location, called Fountain of Hope, is a new children's centre, with little more than dirt floors, it serves nearby families. One student said, "They have so little and yet are so joyful; ." Our teens recognized that the children's joy was directly related to their love for Jesus. The experience confirmed another's calling to be a teacher, maybe in a very similar place.

Today's Thought

Our life is full of brokenness – broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. – Henri Nouwen6
