Cookie Jars!

Monday, September 20, 2004 Rod Marshall

Sometimes things happen and I ask, "Lord, what are You saying to me?" Today, I was enthusiastically having a cup of tea when such an event occurred. Earlier at home, in haste, I had cut off the last few biscuits … Read more

Tiggers or Eeyores?

Thursday, September 16, 2004 Rod Marshall

As I left the house one day, Caroline, my wife, said to me, "I prefer you as a Tigger rather than as an Eeyore." (A.A. Milne's Eeyore character was renowned for negativity and Tigger for zestful enthusiasm!) Maybe it was … Read more

More Pigeons!

Wednesday, August 18, 2004 Rod Marshall

Today as I walked back from town, I noticed some wire netting that covered a large circular window. The netting is put there to stop the pigeons from being able to perch on the ledges. Many businesses spend thousands of … Read more

Hacksaw

Thursday, July 29, 2004 Rod Marshall

The other day, I attempted to shorten a screw using a small hacksaw. However, after I had used the hacksaw for about twenty seconds, it seemed that my efforts had ceased to make any meaningful impact. Before the commencement of … Read more

The Signature

I was scheduled to preach the other night, but, sadly, I had a bad headache, and was under pressure from the throbbing in my head. As we drove to collect my daughter on the way to the church, my wife … Read more

Pigeons

Saturday, April 24, 2004 Rod Marshall

Often, I go for a walk at lunchtime, allowing my brain to be refreshed from the melee of students and computers, and giving my eyes a rest from the screen. One day, the streets were dirty and slippery in places, … Read more

Snowstorm

Friday, April 2, 2004 Rod Marshall

The wind blew and the trees swayed as a harbinger of the coming storm. The sky grew dark and the clouds rolled in to unleash a heavy snowstorm. Within a few minutes there was an inch of snow on the … Read more

Speakers

Wednesday, March 31, 2004 Rod Marshall

The other day, I made a trip to the refuse and recycling centre to drop off some old large stereo speakers. They had taken up residence stacked next to the storage heater since I had liberated them from my parents … Read more

The Window

Friday, March 26, 2004 Rod Marshall

By my desk, I have a window that gives me a view of the hustle and bustle of local life down in the street below. Lately, I have been watching a house being built on the footprint of an old … Read more

A young lady pulled up in a car next to Caroline and me as we walked to the local shops. She wound down the window, and asked if we knew the directions to a local street. As it was one … Read more

Worldwide Ministry

Pray
Monday, November 2, 2026 – In Uganda — After much preparation, 19 of our high schoolers travelled to Uganda for ministry. One location, called Fountain of Hope, is a new children's centre, with little more than dirt floors, it serves nearby families. One student said, "They have so little and yet are so joyful; ." Our teens recognized that the children's joy was directly related to their love for Jesus. The experience confirmed another's calling to be a teacher, maybe in a very similar place.

Today's Thought

Our life is full of brokenness – broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. – Henri Nouwen6
