The Weeds In The Wheat

Tuesday, September 17, 2002 Harold Moddle

Having been raised in farm country, I grew up with a hatred of the thistles the farmers often found in their fields of wheat. Some time ago, I drove through a local park, which had been let grow naturally, instead … Read more

A Tale Of Two Cities

Friday, June 14, 2002 Harold Moddle

Some years ago, the congregation I was serving gave my wife and me a trip to Israel, returning through Greece and Rome. One of the highlights of that trip was a visit to Athens, where I stood on the Areopagus, … Read more

From The Heart

Thursday, April 25, 2002 Harold Moddle

The bread used in our church for communion is the unleavened wafer, which, when taken into the mouth, dissolves slowly on the tongue. Each time I take this bread, I hold it in my mouth until I return to my … Read more

As The Tree Grows

Friday, March 22, 2002 Harold Moddle

Recently, I stood in a churchyard, looking up at an old and very tall pine tree. There it stood, a great living thing, probably older than I, strong, and with great branches reaching out to the sun. Then I noticed … Read more

Quo Vadis

Wednesday, March 20, 2002 Harold Moddle

Yesterday, as I was leaving the city to visit my son who lives in a nearby town, I swung onto the freeway, past Pearson International airport. Ahead of me were perhaps two hundred cars. Across the median, going in the … Read more

Martyrs

Tuesday, November 20, 2001 Harold Moddle

As we continue to reflect on the devastating events of September 11, much has been said in an attempt to understand those men who were willing to give their lives to commit such terrible acts of violence and hatred. Probably … Read more

Graffiti

Sunday, November 4, 2001 Harold Moddle

At an intersection near my home there is a box holding, I suppose, electrical connections for the traffic lights. On this someone has written the word MENE. Every time I pass by, I wonder if the writer knows that this … Read more

Passing Through?

Wednesday, July 11, 2001 Harold Moddle

Walking one day recently in the park, I was amazed and ashamed to see the number of pop cans and the volume of litter some have left to mar God's beautiful world. I guess some expect that someone else will … Read more

Draw Near To Jesus

Wednesday, November 8, 2000 Harold Moddle

I love my church — except for one thing! When it was built, the architect must have seen that the weight of the roof might cause the walls to collapse outward, and so he fixed a series of iron rods … Read more

Worldwide Ministry

Pray
Friday, October 2, 2026 – In Peru — Praise God for Pastor Elvis and Rosita who are doing a great job. Pray they will have the lay support they need to grow the church while we are on Home Assignment next year. Pray for the Lord to raise up good, consistent Sunday School teachers and leaders, mature in the faith and capable of loving the people. Pray also for the Lord's leading as we try to prepare the church for our absence.
