Our Filling Station

Sunday, October 24, 1999 Anne Russell

Every Sunday when we go into God's house, "the church", we go to get topped up. I think of it as our filling station. A car needs gas to propel it along the road, just as we need a spiritual … Read more

Comfortably Removed

Tuesday, October 19, 1999 Anne Russell

How many times have you and I been comfortably removed from a situation, one that we thought did not involve us? As a Christian, involvement is what God calls obedience, and there is no way in which we can risk … Read more

LISTEN Listen listen

Friday, October 15, 1999 Anne Russell

When I was in Israel this year I stood on a mountaintop. That day I could see all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. There was a stillness, and something that is hard to describe. I thought of Elijah when … Read more

Silver Polish

Wednesday, October 6, 1999 Anne Russell

I have been ignoring the tea service that has been in the family for some time. I neglected to say silver, because it looks more like gold. I have been ignoring it, simply because it needs cleaning, and I didn't … Read more

Because He Lives We Can Face Tomorrow

Thursday, September 30, 1999 Anne Russell

There are times in our lives when we need a piece of scripture to lift us up. In such times very often we can't find the particular piece of scripture that we think meets our personal needs. Flipping through the … Read more

A Programme: Works Can't Save

Tuesday, September 28, 1999 Anne Russell

I use the computer programme "Works" as my scratch pad. I record the words of my devotional and I save them in a file. In that sense, you could say the programme "Works", works for me. There are a lot … Read more

How Do You Measure Your Seasons?

Tuesday, September 21, 1999 Anne Russell

In the spring of the year as we travel along a country road, the first thing I notice breaking the soil is the corn. It comes up and covers the fields with something that looks like grass. Spring turns to … Read more

Worldwide Ministry

Pray
Monday, November 2, 2026 – In Uganda — After much preparation, 19 of our high schoolers travelled to Uganda for ministry. One location, called Fountain of Hope, is a new children's centre, with little more than dirt floors, it serves nearby families. One student said, "They have so little and yet are so joyful; ." Our teens recognized that the children's joy was directly related to their love for Jesus. The experience confirmed another's calling to be a teacher, maybe in a very similar place.

Today's Thought

Our life is full of brokenness – broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. – Henri Nouwen6
