Retain This Portion

Acts 2:25 – For David speaketh concerning him; I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for he is on my right hand that I should not be moved.

Something I've long used for a bookmark is an airline boarding pass stub which reads: "This portion of the ticket should be retained as evidence of the journey."

It struck me once that, as our life is a journey, I wondered about the portion of my life's "ticket" that I would "retain as evidence" of my journey. Would the part that I retain, hang on to, wish to show as evidence, my faith and my actions, stand up? If God is the one who "checks the stub," would the one I present to Him be acceptable, valid, genuine? Am I always keeping the Lord before my face, keeping him on my right hand? Is my faith strong enough that I will not be moved?

When Jesus died on the cross that we might be saved, He was giving us the most important portion of our life's "ticket"; He paid for it with his life. Keeping Him always before our face; on our right hand; making sure that we will not be moved; ready to show any who choose to "check", is the best evidence we can provide of our journey.

Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, we know you are always with us, on whatever journeys we choose to travel. May the stops we make and the people we meet along the way serve as guides in the portion of our ticket we wish to retain as "evidence of our journey". In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
