The Comforter

John 15:26,27 – But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Most of us have, or have had a wonderful, warm comforter. Something to snuggle in on cold winter nights. A "friend" to wrap around our weary bones which ache with arthritis, or call out for comfort when we have a cold.

What parent can forget early morning hours soothing a sad little soul in a child-size comforter, or softening the blow of a teen's first heartache, held gently in a faithful old comforter.

Enter any old folks' home and chances are, you'll see many a comforter or "throw" nestled around an old shoulder or tucked in carefully across their knees.

Usually the first thing we grab for when there is a need, a comforter comes in pretty handy.

God the Holy Spirit is our Comforter, our refuge, our protector. We can wrap ourselves up in His love and his warmth, and He will soothe our cares when we call out for comfort.

Prayer: Our Father in Heaven, we know you are always there, especially when we are in need. We know that we need only ask, and you will comfort us, protect us, and offer us your warmth. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
