Gift Of The Gab

Listen to this devotional:

John 6:63 – It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. (NKJV)

Having the ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone at any place at any time must surely be a gift. When I came to the verses in the Bible that talk about the gifts of the Spirit, I really did think that the gift of the gab would be one of them. You need only to have asked my father if this was a gift. I could talk up a storm at any time of day, and especially at 6:30 a.m. when he was trying to have his first cup of tea.

It has also taken even more time for me to realize that it is something that is innate in me. So if it was there from birth, how am I using it for the Kingdom? As I began to ponder this, I was made aware that I could be doing more in my words to share the love of Christ with others.

Our words are very powerful, and with them, we have the ability to bring life to others. I know there have been times in conversation with someone that the Lord has given me a word for that person. When I have shared it, it has proven to be just what they needed to hear.

1 Corinthians 12:8 – For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Lord, how we want our words to glorify. Help us when our words are just words of gab; direct us back to You so that we may share words of life and love. We are sorry for the times when we have failed to speak of You and to tell others what You have done in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
