When We Trust God

Listen to this devotional:

Some years ago, as a family, we, along with hundreds of others, faced the reality of my husband's job loss. Around us, couples experienced desperation, panic, fear, and worry at the realization of having to trade a strong, rich, working past for a poor, uncertain future.

It was indeed an unforeseen shock for all of us. However, through God's grace, we had God in our lives. We had God's Word in our hearts. We had each other to pray with, and for, and we did just that — lots of it. We read God's Word — heaps of it. We grew in faith. We grew in our trust of God. And we waited!

Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. (KJV)

We watched as doors of employment closed. We were amazed as other doors of pastoral ministry opened, wonderful doors with more than sufficient work for both of us. Over the next decades, we grew up spiritually and expanded the flock and work of God in our area.

We continued daily to thank our gracious Lord, indeed agreeing with King David:

Psalm 16:6 – The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. (NIV)

We even managed to move from an old rented house to buy our own home, with a modest acreage, set in dairy and beef farming country, surrounded by beautiful views revealing God's glorious creation from every window.

    Trust

Today's Scripture verse from Proverbs makes a short, precise statement, but oh, how powerful and so full of promise for those who put their trust in God! To put trust in means to believe in, hope in, have confidence in, have faith in, rely on, and depend on.

When we trust God, we let Him lead us.
When we trust God, we believe He wants the best for us.
When we trust God, we will not be tempted to go astray.
When we trust God, fear and doubt have no place in us.
When we trust God, our troubles and worries fade away.
When we trust God, joy, happiness, and contentment belong to us.
When we trust God, we praise and worship Him freely.
When we trust God, we feel His wondrous grace, mercy, and love toward us, and so much more.

Matthew 6:25-26 – Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (KJV)

Prayer: Our loving Father, with countries across the world facing recessions and colossal job losses and the consequences thereof, thank You that Your every written and spoken Word is pure, and that we can confidently trust You with everything concerning us. In Jesus' all-powerful and mighty name, we pray. Amen and Amen.
