Think Like A Shrew

1 Corinthians 2:16-17 – The Scriptures ask, "Has anyone ever known the thoughts of the Lord or given him advice?" But we understand what Christ is thinking. (CEV)

Over the last year or so, off and on, we have had shrews in the house. We were oblivious to the fact until one day, I saw "something" scurry down the hall into the computer room. I did not have my glasses on, so I didn't know if I was seeing a really small mouse or a really big spider. At any rate, it was gone before I could see where it went.

I decided to set a mouse trap to see if I might catch a mouse. I figured that if I didn't, then what I saw most likely was a spider. To my delight, after setting the trap, the next day I caught a "mouse". But it was so little! Then I realized that it was a shrew. Shrews are very smart and hard to catch. We didn't know how many we had in the house, so I kept setting the trap. Not long afterwards, I saw one scurry behind the fridge. We pulled the fridge out, but he had disappeared, of course. So then I started thinking like a shrew. If I was hiding in that little place, I would come out in that spot. I reasoned for awhile. I finally set the trap and we went to bed. Sure enough, in the morning, there was the little shrew.

I thought about that experience. I had to think like a shrew in order to catch a shrew. It was a choice I made.

As Christians, we are to think like Christ. We do have the mind of Christ.

Hebrews 8:10b – I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: (KJV)

Even though He has given us His mind, we have a choice to make. Do we want to think like Christ? Do we want to obey Him?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, deep in our hearts, we want to obey You. We often don't know what that looks like. We can find truths in Your Word to help us along that journey. Help us to find those verses. Help us to apply them to our lives. We are a needy people. How we need You today! Amen.
