John 1:9 – The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. (NIV)
What is the Christmas season like where you live? Here in southern Ontario, every town has a Santa Claus parade, declaring the holiday shopping season to be officially open. One local community even has a "Light Up Night". Storeowners welcome us into their shops, offering treats and displaying their wares.
Homes display multi-coloured lights, and there are contests for the best-decorated. It's all great fun, and most people find it very exciting. One year, when visiting neighbours quite a distance away, we commented that their living room seemed very bright. They pointed to a house down the way that positively glowed with lights. That house was ours. That was the year we even decorated the flagpole.
No matter how brightly our houses and shops blaze, their light is nothing in comparison to the true Light, Jesus Christ. Sadly, many still do not recognize Him.
John 1:10 – He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. (RSV)
Dear ones, it is not too late!
John 1:12 – Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. (NIV)
Prayer: Dear Father God, the true Light has changed our lives. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus. May He shine ever more brightly in our lives. Amen.
