Empty Nesters For A Weekend

Listen to this devotional:

Genesis 2:18 – And the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him." (NLT)

Recently, our two boys went away for the weekend. After standing at the front door and hearing me ask them if they had all the essentials packed — in their already full bags — they were off, and we were alone. The first five hours went well. Then I began to recite to my husband the itinerary that we had been left, reading to him continually where our sons were to be and what they were to be doing at each exact moment. When they made a phone call home, it seemed like they had been gone for months, even though it had been only twelve hours at that point.

Our weekend alone was a great one, but we sure missed the boys around us. I know that such times as this are preparation, for the boys are growing older and beginning their own lives — lives that I am blessed to say are lives of following the Lord.

How Jesus must rejoice when we make the call home to Him in our time with Him in prayer! Is it not a great joy for our Lord when we spend time with Him and praise Him alone?

Jude 1:21 – Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we are very thankful for the gifts of family, and the times that we have with them and the memories. We are looking forward to the day when our time is with You, and You can share with us all the memories and times that You cherish about us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
