Comparisons

Listen to this devotional:

As a child, I was often compared to my siblings. Of course, I never measured up to the rest. It hurt. It caused me to withdraw, to condemn myself, to feel insecure, to feel worthless.

I carried that with me for years. Finally, someone helped me to see that I do have value. To establish that fact, I had to break the lies that I had believed. In order to break the lies, I had to know the truth from the Word of God.

Romans 8:1 – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

Condemnation was a stronghold in my life. The root had to be torn up by the truth.

More truths: "You did not choose Me, but I chose you." (John 15:16 NASB) Jesus Christ chose me. He adopted me. Because He is the King of kings, I am a princess! I do have value. "In Him you have been made complete." (Colossians 2:10 NASB) Truth after truth sank into my soul as I claimed them as mine.

May we ever look to Jesus Christ to know the truth about ourselves and not accept the lies that are tossed at us.

Prayer: Father God, help us to deflect the negative words that are said to us that can often destroy our sense of self. Help us to search the Scriptures and claim the truths about ourselves from Your Word. Thank You. Amen.
