The Message Of The Flowers

Saturday, September 27, 2003

Song of Solomon 2:12 – Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. (NIV)

I had been given some flowers in love, on a sad occasion. As I took them and placed them in a vase, I arranged them, and stood back to look at my handiwork. I stopped and thought of the message of the flowers.

Flowers are given on many different occasions. Think of the message they bring. Try to remember the first flowers you received. Perhaps it was graduation, Mother's Day, a stay in hospital, or the delight of your wedding day — a most pleasing, beautiful gift for each special time we celebrate, even in a time of sorrow, as we celebrate a life given back to God.

God is the One who gave us the flowers that can carry such meaningful messages. Flowers are always given in love. In the beauty of His holiness He created every intricate part of each flower, just for us.

They bring comfort in sorrow, joy in celebrations, and a mystery of elegance that no mortal can describe.

Prayer: Dear God, Creator of us all, we give thanks for the flowers that bring to us love and joy, peace and happiness, in all seasons of life. You gave us life that we might have it more abundantly through Your love and grace. May we find true beauty and strength in You, as we look for the message of the flowers, which is love. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
