John 1:12 – But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

Please check the appropriate title:
Miss     Ms.     Mrs.     Mr.

Names on the office complex directory:
D. Anderson, M.D.
H. Arthur, Attorney at Law
O. Deere, Dental Surgeon
E. Theoret, Ph.D.
M.O.M., Domestic Engineer
John Doe

Wait. That can't be right! John Doe? What is his title? What does he do?

Most of us live by titles. I have many. I am unmarried, hence my title is Miss. I am a licensed music therapist, my title? M.T.A. (in Canada) or R.M.T.-B.C. (in the United States). I worked hard to earn my titles (well, except the Miss one). Without a title we are nothing, right? Just another face in the crowd. Wrong!

To "as many as receive Him" God has given the title, "My Child" and He has taken the title "Father".

John Doe may be insignificant on the office complex directory but if he has received God, then in God's eyes he is special, he is honoured, he is titled, he is a Child of God. This is the one title that counts for eternity.

Prayer: Lord, we confess that we often fail to see beyond the titles that we put on ourselves and on others. We know that these titles are man-made and mean nothing in Your eyes. Help us each day to remember who we truly are, children of the Living God, loved by Him. Thank you Lord for giving us a title that really defines who we are. Amen.
