It's All Good

Over the years, there have been a lot of different clichés that everyone likes to use. One I've noticed lately is "It's all good" — which got me to thinking about what the Bible says is good. (All quotations are from the NKJV.)

  • It is good for me to draw near to God. (Psalm 73:28a)
  • It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High. (Psalm 92:1)
  • It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes. (Psalm 119:71)
  • It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. (Lamentations 3:26)
  • And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)
  • Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (James 1:17)

It's all good!

In the beginning, God created all things, and when He had finished creating, He said that it was good. But sin spoiled God's perfect world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit.

This is where the good news comes in. The good news is good. What is the good news? The good news is that we can be restored into a right relationship with God. It's God's grace extended to us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)

This is good news. We are all sinners, and we all need a Saviour. God the Father loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus Christ, the Son, came into the world to save us from our sins. He rose from the dead and offers us the gift of eternal life when, by the power of the Holy Spirit, in faith, we seek forgiveness for our sins and believe in Him.

John 3:16 – For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)

I've heard this verse referred to as the gospel (the good news) in a nutshell. The familiar chorus says it well:

    God is so good,
    God is so good,
    God is so good,
    He's so good to me.

It's all good!

Prayer: Gracious Father, You are so good to us. We thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross for our sins. We thank You that He rose from the dead. We thank You for the gift of forgiveness and eternal life through believing in Him. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

“Praise God from whom all good things flow…” We sing it every Sunday. Thanks for the reminder that “God is so good, He’s so good to me…” (sung by Kathy Tricoli). And God does work all thing for the good of those who love Him, although sometimes in a crisis, it doesn’t feel very good. Thanks for this good reminder of God’s goodness and our Savior’s grace. Blessings,

    Dear Dee Renaud,
Thank you for spreading the good news of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ who did all that was needed for all of us human beings all for all time.
    Keep writing.

My husband grew up in a religion-culture home where his mother was widowed with a large family to raise. I did not grow up in a Christian home — as a matter of fact my Dad taught me that Christians were a little nuts. To say the least we came from different perspectives and are poles apart in our Christian experience.
With God’s help we still serve our Lord differently. It is all good. Thank you.

    Amen sister!
    God is so good,
    God is so good,
    God is so good,
    He’s so good to me.
Although you are making me feel old with the song I sang as a teenager.
