Exodus 3:11a – But Moses said to God, "Who am I?" (NRSV)
Exodus 3:12b – It is I who sent you. (NRSV)
Exodus 3:14a – I Am Who I Am. (NRSV)
"Join the Word Guild," they said. So I did, and before my membership card had even arrived in the mail, I suddenly found myself shoved (no, it was more I was being encouraged to jump) into the 21st century. Because I was invited to do an interview on a blog-talk radio show, I needed a blog, a web location, and a Paypal account. Whew! And I knew not how.
Centuries earlier, Moses found himself shoved (no, being encouraged to jump) into a new place with God. It's easier to catch the meaning if it's written this way:
Moses – "Who am I?"
God – "I Am Who I Am."
Every day, God is calling us to see Him as He really is. Every day, we have to make the decision to look at Him or to look at ourselves. Is it ever an easy choice? That depends on how we look at it, doesn't it?
Prayer: Lord, You are the God of all the universe — the Master of Creation! You are God who sees us in our frailties and yearns for us to see You as You really are. Come! We invite You to be God in our lives today. Help us to see You in our lives the way You really are:
- God.
In Christ's name. Amen.
