Dressed For Success

Listen to this devotional:

Ephesians 6:11 – Put on all of God's armour so that you will be able to stand safe against all strategies and tricks of Satan. (TLB)

I used to fall for "fashion sense" advice in my younger years. "You must wear this. The new styles this year are two inches above the knee." "No one is wearing blue anymore. The new dress-for-success colour is grey. Your shoes and purse must match." I bought all the books and magazines that touted the latest craze, and I implemented most of their "clues" into my life. Oh, the money and time I wasted!

That's before I knew God's dress code. Now I dress neatly and conservatively, and I top it off with God's Dress for Success list as my priority. I start with the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the girdle of truth, and the shoes of peace. My accessories are the sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith.

What if we all spent as much time dressing to please God as we do others? How would the world change? The only way to find out is to try it. That's my fashion advice, and it's found in the Bible, the best-seller of all time.

Prayer: Lord of all the universe, wisdom of the ages, forgive us for spending too much time following nonsense. Today, we want to be on Your best-dressed list, for Christ's sake, and yes, for our own. Amen.
