Fully Dressed

At a Bible study the other night, we were amazed at the spirit given to martyrs as we discussed Daniel chapter 3. We look at our own weakness, and we just know that we could never be so strong to go up against persecution.

Yet, the story of Daniel was given to us to prove that when we are in that situation, God's Spirit is no less. Daniel's three friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, did not bow to Nebuchadnezzar's statue. Old Neb was on a pretty good relationship with these men. When they refused to bow on his command, his patience hit the limit, and the furnace was fired seven times hotter.

Daniel 3:21 – So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans, and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. (NIV)

I have always felt the comfort of being fully dressed in any situation. Whether it is clothing befitting skiing or bike riding, being fully dressed and prepared makes a difference in the task. The three men were fully dressed and ready for their task in more than one way, because they were constant in their prayers to God, because they read His Word daily, and because they fellowshipped frequently. Because God was a source of daily spiritual food, these men were adequately clothed for the task before them. Reading devotionals and offering prayers of repentance and praise on a daily basis prepare us for whatever the Nebuchadnezzars of this world may offer. Be them friend to foe, God is with us.

Ephesians 6:13 – Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (NIV)

Prayer: O Father, You are sufficient. You are all-knowing and so much more satisfying than the things of this world, even though You created it wonderfully well. Let us know that we have Your strength to overcome. Continue us on a daily path to partake at Your banquet. May You be our all in all. Keep us dressed accordingly. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
