Genesis 1:14-15 – And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. (KJV)
I can remember times when our family, either while camping or sitting on the long porch at the side of the house, would thrill at the first star each night. In our childlike innocence, we thought that God was turning on the stars one at a time, like light bulbs. The skies provided entertainment in those years without radio, television, and other electronic gadgets. We would chant, "Star light, star bright", and then wish upon the star. Rural life, without streetlights or sky glow from a large city, provided us darkness to see the breathtaking view of the night sky.
We are reminded daily that the world's population continues to increase. Along with that comes increased light pollution that has almost obscured the view of the night skies in densely populated areas. In very remote places of the world, and in locations designated as dark sky sanctuaries, the stars continue to be vividly impressive sights. The lights of heaven take our breath away, because God designed them to show His magnificent greatness and power.
The lights in the sky were set into place to give order to our earth and our time. God has bestowed another light to be accessed through our faith in Jesus Christ. We receive this spiritual light when we accept Christ as our Saviour, through the Holy Spirit, Who guides and directs our steps as we serve our Lord. It is a joy to live according to God's will. As we serve Him, people will see His light shining through our good works, knowing that they are to God's glory. There is nothing that can dim the light of Christ.
When we live with Christ shining to others in actions and deeds through our sincere and grateful faith, we represent the character of God. That light is Christ's righteousness. What an option: to choose life lived in the light of Christ, instead of the darkness of this sin-filled world! Have you chosen Christ as your Saviour, so that you might glorify God by shining His light to others?
Prayer: Dear Father, we thank You for using the sun, moon, and stars to keep order for us on earth, and for using Your spiritually divine light to guide the way through the darkness of life. May we always be prepared to shine Your light to others. Amen.

Tuesday, April 16, 2024 – In Peru — Please pray for this summer season at our beach-town home to be a blessing to the little Fellowship we have started and that the Lord would "add to our numbers those who are being saved".

Good morning, Karen,
One of the joys of moving to our ranch when my husband retired, is exactly the topic of your devotional. The bright stars remind us constantly of God’s blessings to us. When our grandchildren, all city dwellers, come, they enjoy the stars… and the lightning bugs, which apparently are no longer seen in the city.

Good morning Karen,
Thank you for the little walk down memory lane today. I too remember as a kid, the first star, we were told that was a loved one that was up there keeping an eye on us. and the wishing upon a star, and to see fireflies is an odd thing these days if you are lucky enough to spot them, sure not like they were when we were kids — houses and buildings instead of open fields.
I too am thankful for the Light that does not stop shining, day or night. I pray we may always show His light wherever and whenever.

This is a great reminder of the importance of God’s light in our lives and that we are God’s light to shine forth into his World. I used to go around singing “Star Light, Star Bright” when I was younger and loved when we went to the cottage and the darkness which made the stars shine brighter. Thank you for stirring up the good memories and reminding me that it is important for me to shine the light of Jesus to others so that they can have the hope that he gives Christians.
May you continue to shine your light and to share your thoughts and wisdom with us all so that we will be reminded of the importance of being the children of God. May you continue to enjoy the light from all sources that God provides to you.

You reminded me of the beauty of the skies in Australia’s outback. I took my son there many years ago and we delighted as the southern cross and Milky Way glistened in the sky.

How wonderful it is to read your words of hope and faith. We truly do serve a risen Saviour. Thank you for steering our gaze into the heavens. We do have an awesome God. Thank God for Calvary. I live in northern Ontario so I can see the stars often.
