During the Christmas season many years ago, the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) organization had a "Tie One On" campaign whereby we could purchase a red ribbon with MADD in black letters, to tie on our car aerials to signify that we were against drinking and driving.
Another community had a white ribbon for FADD (Friends/Families Against Drunk Driving), and so the white ribbon joined my red one. Circumstances have been such that neither campaign returned, and so the ribbons are getting rather weather-beaten and faded.
It has been interesting over the years to observe the number of comments I've received regarding the ribbons and subsequent reactions when I explain what they are. People have thought the ribbons signified that my car was a gift or wondered if they were there to help me find my car in the parking lot. Many, many people have flagged me down and told me my keys were on my roof.
When I explain what the ribbons really are, I get a cool reception, almost like being dismissed. Drunk driving isn't something people want to talk about unless they've been touched by it.
I find our faith is somewhat the same. We quite readily say we are fortunate, lucky, or "in the right place at the right time". But just try substituting "blessed" for any of the above words and the atmosphere changes. Often people will skip right on to something else. I know I was guilty of that at one time also. Now, I use it as often as I can, for how can people realize that it is not fortune or luck, but that they are blessed, if they don't hear it?
At least we can plant the seed.
Prayer: O Lord, may we be ever mindful that what we have — no matter how much or how little; what we experience, the good and the bad; our families and our friends; — are all blessings from you. For these are the seeds of knowledge. May we also "plant the seed" at every opportunity. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Saturday, May 18, 2024 – In North Africa — Living in North Africa we get so used to hearing the call to prayer it becomes like background noise and sometimes I don't hear it anymore. I am challenged by the fact that some Muslims are so committed to pray that they go to the mosque 5 times a day. Would you consider, with me, setting your alarm to go off at 3:00 every day and pray for these three things: 5 families to come to know Christ, 3 people for us to read scripture with,1 new church plant.
Housing: "Update May 16, 2024: Please continue to pray for T and her son A to find a different apartment...."
