God Of The Impossible

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "I Love To Tell The Story"1 (Lyrics)

Matthew 19:26 – Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God, everything is possible." (NLT)

Our friends showed my husband and me a wooden game they had just bought. Two marbles rolled around on either side of a slope, enclosed in plexiglass, that looked like a miniature half pipe for skateboarding. They were separated from each other by a wooden peg in the middle. You had to get each marble into the cavity on its slope. No matter how we tried to manoeuvre, jiggle, or shake the game, only one of the marbles at a time would nestle into its cavity. The game was impossible!

Of course, the inventor of the game knew how it was done. When we heard the solution, it was so easy!

"Spin it!" said our friend. "It's centrifugal force!" We did that, and with one twist of the fingers, both marbles popped into place, just like that!

The Bible describes many situations that seemed to have no solution.

The disciples had just returned from a tour, where they had gone out two by two to minister to people's needs. Jesus was grieving the shocking news that his cousin, John the Baptist, had been beheaded.

Mark 6:31a – Then Jesus said, "Let's go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest awhile." (NLT)

It was impossible. People caught sight of them, even in that remote place, and soon the crowd swelled to thousands. Jesus had compassion on them and began teaching them. Hours passed, and the disciples suggested, "Send the crowds away so they can go to the nearby farms and villages and buy something to eat."

Jesus then said something even more impossible. "You feed them."

"With what?" they asked. "We'd have to work for months to earn enough money to buy food for all these people!" (Mark 6:36-37 NLT)

The disciples did what Jesus asked. They asked around and found a boy who offered them five loaves of bread and two fish — such a pitiful amount among so many. This human solution did not seem at all feasible. Everyone waited in anticipation, sitting in groups. Jesus, looking up to heaven towards His Father, blessed the small lunch, and the disciples began distributing the food. In the hands of the Creator, the impossible became possible. Everyone was fed, and there were even leftovers.

My friend, Joan, attested to this story. She worried when preparing food to feed a crowd in her tiny home. Would there be enough? She would pray over the food, that what she had would be multiplied, and miraculously, everyone would have enough to eat.

All of us have had impossible situations in our lives. Let us remember that with God, everything is possible. We just have to ask Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are the God of the impossible. Help us to trust You in the situations that seem to have no solution. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

    Dear Alice,
Thank you for your devotional. I have just come back from the hospital here in Toronto and was told by a specialist that I do not have breast cancer. Family and friends and church members have prayed for my husband and me, and the good news is that I do not have cancer. Praise to God and to you for your inspirational message. God bless you.

Thanks, Alice, for another of your very interesting and positive devotionals.
It is so true how amazed we can be at the solutions God has for our circumstances. We definitely need to be ever thankful for the answers we get for our prayers. Jesus certainly is ever faithful in delivering the best solutions for situations we encounter. Blessings for these special writings you prepare.

    Good morning, Alice,
This is a wonderful message which is on the wall over my bed that I see each morning as I wake up and a reminder each night when I crawl into bed. Last night after Bible study a friend shared with me, and this is the perfect message for her this morning. God works in wonderful ways.
I have enjoyed your sharing for a few years through PresbyCan. Thank you. I fully understand Robin’s need to support PresbyCan in a different way and appreciate that he knows how to make the website accessible. I will miss all the writers as they share their faith, and I feel I know them a little. It has been nice to read and learn from past writers so I will have many more chances to do that.
    Thank you for sharing. Blessings.

Thank you, Alice, for your devotion.
God had me do things that I would never have thought of, and didn’t know I could have the knowledge of going about it, and completing it.
I pray over every decision that I need to make, and the Holy Spirit helps me get there.
Thank you for your time and thoughts to us on the reading side, of these wonderful
    stories and prayers every day.
    Blessings,
    (Quebec)

Thank you, Alice. May we look to Christ always for the “impossible”.
