Go Tell Of The Feast

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Wonderful Grace Of Jesus"1 (Lyrics)

It was a trip my dad was not to forget. It was a fishing trip to Canada with my husband, Larry, and some other guys from the church. My dad was the greatest fisherman I ever knew. He fished on the hottest of days, or he would drill a hole in the ice to catch them on the coldest of days. He had so much patience when it came to waiting them out for just a nibble on his line.

One day, he went out with Larry, and he insisted that they go out to the shallows of the giant lake while their fellow fishermen fished deep. As he directed my husband where to set anchor, they looked down to find a huge school of walleye just beneath the boat. As Larry excitedly readied his fishing gear, my dad said the most incredible thing, "Let's go get the others so they can catch some, too." My sweet husband reluctantly did as my dad had suggested. The group caught many fish that day, except for my husband, who caught none, which we laughed about for years!

I thought of this story, as I was introduced to an account in 2 Kings 7 in a devotion I read awhile back. The Syrian army had besieged Samaria into famine. Four starving men with leprosy, a terrible affliction at that time, went to the Syrian camp in desperation for food, but the men of the camp had been frightened away by the threat of an attack on them.

2 Kings 7:8-9 – And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it. Then they said to one another, "We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king's household." (NKJV)

How many times have I feasted on God's Word, His blessings, and His truth, but didn't go and tell others? I enjoy the warmth of the sanctuary as I listen to the messages from God, the singing of praise, and the wonderful fellowship, but I am fearful to go and tell of God's plan to receive all who ask into His kingdom. In this time of famine of the Word in our world, we have the gospel, the good news of Christ!

Prayer: O Lord, help me not to feast alone but to go and tell others what I have found in You. Amen.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Jeanie.

Thanks Jeanie, blessings to you and your family.

Great devotional…makes you think how we should share. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this encouraging devotional with us today. To God be the glory! Blessings.

Jeannie, Your message convicts me of my own tendency to view God’s blessings as if they’re in short supply and might run out. It’s really about faith, I realize. Can I trust Him and His infinite goodness – even when it seems like I’ve missed out?

    Good morning, Jeanie!
Thank you for today’s devotional, especially your prayers: “O Lord, help me not to feast alone but to go and tell others what I have found in You.” Amen.
    Blessings!

Thank you, Jeanie, for another of your interesting and very positive devotionals. Yes, it is really something we need do more often, not to only read God’s word, but to share the meaning of it with others. By doing that, we, ourselves would even get a deeper meaning and understanding of His word. Blessings for these writings you do.

Thank you for writing this devotional.
    I have a feast, And I don’t share.
    But, But…
I thank you for sharing with your writing.
    Blessings.

    Good morning, Jeanie,
I loved your story about the fishing trip and admire your father kindness. I am not sure I would have got your message from the passage in Kings so I am glad that you wrote this devotional. It is so important that we share our faith with others and the messages in the Word. In this message in Kings, I got let us do right out of fear and in your message, it was motivated out of kindness. I like that message better. I am sure your writing will inspire a positive outcome. Thanks for sharing. Blessings.

    Very good.

Thanks, Jeanie. Oddly, this is the second message I’ve read today with this same theme: go and share.
