Our daughter is a horse lover. When she was 13 years old, she got her very own horse, Jewel. She had been present at the birth of this horse and spent time with her for her first three months. Then the owner asked us if she could have the horse. What a happy day that was for her!

When she and her husband bought their first house a few years later, Jewel needed a companion, and our daughter was able to rescue a horse named Jazy from a friend who wasn't able to look after her any longer. Jewel and Jazy became fast friends.

When Jewel died very suddenly, Jazy needed a new friend. Blossom was rescued next. A short while later, another friend needed someone to take one of her horses, and so, Merlin was rescued. Sadly, he died suddenly after only eight months. The next rescue was Ben. Jazy, Blossom, and Ben are still living happily together.

A few days ago, our daughter received a message from another friend whose horse, Tess, was not being well cared for at the place where she was being boarded. She asked our daughter if she would rescue it and keep it with her three other horses. Despite involvement from the SPCA and the police, this rescue took almost three days due to an uncooperative property owner. Tess has finally arrived and is settling in nicely with her new friends.

On a spiritual level, like these horses, we, too, all need to be rescued — from the penalty of our sin, which separates us from God and which can destroy our lives.

Romans 3:23 – For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard. (NLT)

Jesus came to give His life to rescue and save us from eternal death, the penalty of sin. When we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we are saved — rescued!

We can't rescue ourselves from our sin, any more than Tess or the others could rescue themselves. Therefore, let us thank God that He had a plan to save each one of us!

Psalm 13:5 – But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. (NLT)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You never leave us nor forsake us and that You want to rescue us from the darkness of the world and bring us into Your glorious light. We are so grateful that Jesus gave His life for our sins, just as You planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. All glory be to You forever and ever! Amen.

Dee, a wonderful message this morning. Thank you!

    Amen Dee. A great analogy!
    Blessings.

I like the term rescue. I enjoyed this and will forward to my horse-loving daughter-in-law. Thank you for sharing.

Great words of wisdom plus some very pleasant horse talk. Animals are just gifts for our journey. I’m glad he rescued me.

Good words Dee! Yes, we sure need be thankful that our loving Lord is ever ready to rescue us from whatever circumstance we face. Blessings for your writing.

Thank you for sharing this encouraging devotional with us. As a young girl, I was horse crazy. I’m really glad you’re able to rescue needy horses. They’re such amazing creatures. Blessings.

    Good morning, Dee,
Thank God only He can rescue us and thank God for your daughter to have His heart to rescue these beautiful animals.
    Blessings.

Well you did it again! Put meaning of God’s word into our daily lives.
I knew when I had read only the first few words that you were the author.
Thank you, Dee, for your inspiring message. Keep writing.

    Thank you, Dee,
You are so right. Would it be that more people would accept the fact that they too need to be rescued. And their rescue is faith in Christ as Saviour and Lord.
Thank you so much Dee and may you and yours have a blessed weekend.

Thank you for this reminder of how blessed we are to have been given the gift of a rescue to eternity.
I feel for your daughter. I too rescued a horse and other animals over lifetime. May God meet her needs as she shows compassion for those that came and come into her life.
Blessings to you for sharing your story.

Long time since I read a Daily Devotional from you! Although I was crazy about horses as a preteen, I found allergies prevented me from “bonding” and had to content myself with watching others with them.
The Faith teaching is excellent also, as closely knit groups can heal, nurture and cheer those in need!
    Bless you Dee!

    Good morning, Dee,
What a remarkable story of someone’s love for horses and being able to help others through this love.
Yes, God’s love for us is why He sent His son, Jesus, to rescue us from our sin. Love can conquer many problems and trusting in God when we need help is an important part of our faith.
Thank you for sharing a part of your daughter’s journey and relating it to God’s love for us. Blessings.

Thank you, Dee, for your devotional. If I were a horse, I think I would like to live with your daughter. Thankfully, it does not matter where we live in order to “know” Jesus and have him as our Saviour.
