Behind The Scenes

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Lord Who At Cana's Wedding Feast"1 (Lyrics)

Jeremiah 23:24 – "Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him?" declares the Lord. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" declares the Lord. (ESV)

In yesterday's devotional, I described my incorrect conclusion about the absence of a fellow resident. In further discussion with Valerie, we were both amazed at the rest of the story.

Valerie was on a video call with her brother-in-law in Vancouver, Canada, thousands of kilometres away on the west coast, when she suddenly passed out and fell. Her brother-in-law immediately telephoned her son in Haliburton, about 200 kilometres north of where we live in Toronto. In turn, he contacted our concierge, who contacted our nurse, who rushed to her third-floor suite. When it was determined that she required more serious assistance, the ambulance was called and Valerie was rushed to the hospital emergency.

While great distance, a very short period of time, and a number of people were involved, Valerie was totally unaware of the work that was done behind the scenes to come to her aid so quickly.

As Valerie and I talked about this, we both realized that not many years ago, this type of efficient communication over such a wide distance would not have been possible. As human beings, we are certainly making progress in our ability to communicate. Technology continues to allow us to move forward, hopefully for the good.

While our progress seems amazing, it pales into insignificance when compared with God's ability to work in our lives behind the scenes. Today's verse from Jeremiah tells us that He is everywhere at all times and is not restricted by time and space as we are.

Most often, we aren't aware of how much God is at work in our lives — like the majority of an iceberg, which is hidden below the water surface, with only a small portion visible above. Certainly, in Valerie's case, almost 100 percent of the work was hidden from her!

As I face my daily challenges, I am so grateful that God is working on my behalf, even though I can't see it. I am encouraged by the words from Paul:

Philippians 2:13 – For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (KJV)

When we pray, may we all be simply awestruck by the unlimited, sovereign power and the infinite love that God has for us as He works for our good and His glory, behind the scenes.

Prayer: Dear Father, we are grateful that You are everywhere and in total control. Thank You for understanding our desire to serve You and to help others. Thank You for working in us and for us, even when we can't see it. In the name of our Saviour, we humbly pray. Amen.

    Blessings.

Vincent, thank you for telling this good reminder that our God works the night shift and the day shift, 24/7.

Such an amazing sequence of events! And yes, God is at work! A good reminder for me today, thank you.

Thanks, Vincent, for sharing the way people worked together to help Valerie, it shows we are not alone. Blessings.

Thanks God for your inspirational writing Vince. By adding your personal experience to the message makes it special. Keep up the good work.

What a joy and privilege to read these wonderful events in the life of a woman needing help and the scripture that goes with it! Memorable, Vincent. Thank you.

    Dear Vincent,
Amazing. Thanks for telling us about God’s Grace unseen in all we do for our betterment.

    Good morning, Vincent,
Thank you as always for your devotionals. I really needed to hear that message about God working behind the scenes for our good and His glory.

Praise God, that with the technology communications were speedy enough to get help for Valerie. A friend and I talked yesterday about God always being there working for us, and how magnificent He is to care for us. Thank you again for your writing.

Good morning, Vince. I absolutely love your message today and take such comfort knowing that every day God is working on my behalf every day.
Thank you so very much. Have a blessed day and week.

    Good Morning!
I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading your devotionals.
I find them meaningful, interesting with your little stories behind each one, and easily understood.
    Thank you so much.

Thanks for this dramatic account of God being right there! Going through times when I need that reassurance.
Our son has surgery this week to remove a tumour. I’m praying God’s presence in the O.R.!
Bless you Vince, for your faithfulness in inspiring the “saints” in prayer and loving actions.

Dear Mr. Walter: I so enjoy your writing. Thank you for yesterday’s and today’s devotionals. They are good reminders for everyone. I hope your friend Valerie is fully recovered from her ordeal and has stayed healthy.
I remember your story about the “boardwalk” road around Petrolia. Our former minister had been the minister in Petrolia so I had a chat with him about it. Very interesting piece of history that I did not know.
    Blessings.

    Good morning, Vince,
I believe in many cases God opens my eyes when I am ready to learn, move forward, reach out. He is always there working “behind the scenes” to help me in so many ways that it is impossible to realize all of them.
Great story and so wonderful that Valerie’s problem happened when someone could observe it and set it in motion. Thank the Lord.
The Lord is definitely working in your life to come up with such encouraging devotionals. Thanks.

Thank you for your daily devotional. God bless you.

Good afternoon. I wanted to thank you for your many and wonderful PresbyCan devotionals. The one today really touched my heart. Yes, God is always with us and working in the background on our behalf. I loved your images of caring actions of others on our behalf.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Vincent,
It was nice to get part two of your Devotional. I so like to hear the personal stories and how you tie them into Bible passages.
Keeping you in my prayers daily along with some of my friends that are in assisted living complexes and LTC homes. My dear Aunt lived in one but passed away last year.
You are such a blessing to the other residents at your place there in Toronto. Thanks again for the wonderful Devotionals your write and for sharing your talents.
Stay safe. Have an awesome week.
