No Other Way

Listen while you read: "O Word Of God Incarnate"1 (Lyrics)

Acts 4:1-4 – The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand. (NIV 2011)

My brother David and I rode our bikes all over the countryside of Germany where we grew up. Usually, we followed a clear path through the forests, over the fields, and around our village. However, one day, we abandoned the path, and ended up lost among the pines. Brambles, thick foliage, and towering pines blocked our way. Hours passed before we safely found the path again.

Peter and John also faced obstacles in their path as they were arrested and spent a night in jail because of their preaching. Yet, despite the persecution, they refused to give up. They testified of their faith in front of the high priest. Passion for Jesus erupted from their hearts. Peter preached, saying, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12 NIV 2011)

Are we also convinced that Jesus is the only way to God, or are we distracted from His truth? Are we pointing out His way to others in the midst of a chaos of choices? Are we helping people to find the path of life that is blocked from their view?

Every day, opportunities arise to share our faith and to live out our testimony before others. If we listen to a co-worker's story, we can offer to pray for her. If we see a lonely neighbour, we can invite him over for a meal. If we meet a needy person, we can share our goods in Jesus' name. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the Redeemer of every person, situation, and place. Let's share this good news with our world. There is no other way to live.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we know that the path to You is often blocked or crowded. Help us guide others to You. May we live with others in mind and love with Your power. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

    Kathleen,
Thank you for the encouragement. It is never too late to choose the way of Christ. I appreciate your writing.

Thank you, Kathleen, for your devotional. I bet others, like me, wondered about your growing up in Germany.
I especially appreciate the efforts of those who write devotionals.

    Hello Kathleen,
Thank you for writing. A good reminder that we must stay strong in our faith and share it with others, especially during these uncertain times. Our Lord is ever ready to serve us and deserves great honour and praise for the care and guidance we receive.
Blessings for this very meaningful devotional.

That is such a beautiful simple PURE devotion, like a simple white rose. Thank you so much.
It instantly brought to mind my friends who came from Germany.
His specialty has ALWAYS been kindness and he hates winter. He isn’t well, so my prayer is somehow he’ll get nourishment from God, like through the scriptures. I’ve prayed for them regularly for 45 yrs. Now their extended family is very large and could be a big influence for Christ if they would testify the Gospel.
Thank you, from a sister in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Obstacles are part of life.
We can go around, over, or through them if I we seek the advice of the Spirit on how to proceed.
    Thanks for writing.

Thanks for writing your faith today, Kathleen and for the great reminders.
