Lord, I Come

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "For Thy Mercy And Thy Grace"1 (Lyrics)

Recently in my Bible reading, I have particularly noticed several verses that could well serve us as new year's resolutions:

Philippians 3:13-14 – No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (NLT)

Philippians 4:6 – Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (NLT)

Hebrews 12:1b-2a – Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. (NIV)

Lamentations 3:22-23 – Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (NKJV)

As I was going through my filing cabinet removing old files in readiness for the coming year, I came across these words that I had written several years ago as the beginning of a song that I never finished. However, as I was reading the words, I thought that they might make a good prayer for starting the new year.

So, let this be our new year's prayer:

    Lord, I come

    Lord, I come to You just as I am;
    You're my Saviour, the precious Lamb.
    You paid the price; You died in my place
    And though I'm unworthy, I'm saved by Your grace.

    Change my heart, Lord, and teach me Your ways.
    I will follow You all of my days.
    I come with all of my sin;
    Please make my heart pure and cleanse me within.

    Let me live, Lord, for You alone,
    My life is no longer my own.
    Give me strength for each day as You show me the way,
    Knowing You will be with me always.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, another new year is almost upon us. We thank You for Your many blessings in our lives. We thank You for Your presence with us and for Your promise that You will never leave us nor forsake us. We thank You for the opportunities that the coming year has for us. We come to You just as we are, and we ask You to help us to be Your faithful servants. We need You. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit. We praise Your glorious name now and forever. We pray all these things in Jesus' holy name. Amen.

    Good morning Dee. Thank you for this devotional, so very appropriate as we prepare to ring in a new year, new decade.
    Your selection of verses is wonderful. I hope in 2020 God will inspire you to finish your song. Hopefully in the coming months we will see the finished product.
    May God bless you richly in 2020. Thank you for your devotionals throughout the year.

    Dee:
    I didn’t clue in until I read your name at the bottom that you were the author. I like the lyrics and when I started reading them, I was humming in my head the tune for Lord, I come to you (sorry that’s all the words I can come up with at the moment). Don’t ask me to sing it for you because what comes out my mouth isn’t what is in my head!
    Happy New Year.

    Good morning Dee.
    I just want to thank you for this morning’s devotion. It was very encouraging. I will commit your devotion/ Bible verses to be a daily resolution — to forget our past, don’t worry about anything but pray about everything, persevere and fix my eyes on Jesus. Great is His faithfulness.
    Thank you.
    Happy new year to you and your family and I pray God’s richest blessings for you this coming year and always.

    Hi Dee,
    Good to see one of your devotionals. I liked it. I really like the quote from Lamentations, regardless of the situation we may find ourselves in, we can always depend on the fact that the Lord is with us.
    Thank you for those good words.
    Blessings.
