The Little Things

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Jesus Shall Reign"1 (Lyrics)

Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (NIV)

I am sitting in the beautiful setting of Bon Echo Provincial Park. Evidences of God are everywhere: the tall pines that tower over the campsite, the warm sunshine beaming down on us, and the stunning view when we walk down to the water's edge. I love camping! I always have, but this trip feels a little different. I am even more aware of God's presence.

My husband, two-year-old son, and I left our home in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, with a 1991 Astro van, pulling a 1965 sixteen-foot trailer. I had been nervous all week as we prepared for our six-hour-long trip with such aged vehicles. Worry tends to focus on things that we have no control over. Finally, I decided to put it in the Lord's hands, as He is in control of everything! I prayed that we would have a safe and smooth trip to and from the park.

It was early morning when we left, and we had a beautiful day for travelling. We were about 30 kilometres from the park when my husband decided to stop and check all the tires. They were all in good shape, so we continued on the last leg of our journey. When we arrived on our campsite, my husband noticed that one of the tires on the trailer was leaking and going flat. We praised the Lord that He had brought us safely and smoothly, and we thanked Him that the spare tire was in good shape!

In this moment, I was reminded that God cares about everything that matters to us, even the small things. All good things come from Him. We experienced a wonderful vacation because of God's love and grace.

Throughout Scripture, we see evidence that God cares about the small things in life, as well as the big things.

Luke 12:6-7 – Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (NIV)

God is always with us, and when we deliberately commit our worries to Him and thank Him for looking after them, that's when His miraculous provision is evident. The next time you are feeling anxious about something, take it to God. He is always willing to listen. He loves us always.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for always being there for us. You are all-powerful, and You are always willing to help us. Help us to remember that we can come to You about anything. We just need to ask. Amen.

Thanks, Ashley. You’re right, it’s so important to look for God’s blessings everywhere.

    Hello
Thanks for this devotional. It was interesting and so confirming how faithful God is!!
    God bless.

God does count my hair’s. Is it silly to pray for more of them? I inherited balding from my Mom. Great writing today! Thanks.

Dear Ashley, thank you for such a positive devotional and reminding us of God’s love and caring for us at all times. I am glad you had such a wonderful vacation with your family. Blessings.

    Dear Ashley,
Thank you for sharing the devotional with us today, and for reminding us what a wonderful, caring, all powerful God we have the pleasure of serving.

Thank you for sharing those verses and your experiences!! Isaiah 41:10 has been a favorite of mine for many years, and verse 13 goes with it with those words, “I will help you.” I got them in focus from two different ladies and they have come to mind through the years. Praise the Lord for His Word.

    Hello Ashley,
Thanks for this devotional. Very true words that God is always there for us, watching and ever ready to fulfill our needs. We need only ask Him and must be ever thankful for His love and care.
    Blessings to you,
    (B.C.)

Very well said. Thank you for your sharing.
Here at our Presbyterian Church we have taken a leap of faith and decided to build our own Botanical Gardens.
It will be open to anyone 24 hours a day to walk through, sit and meditate, enjoy the solitude, or with friends or new friends.

Dear Ashley – this is the first devotional I recall reading of yours. Great job. I hope you keep writing. You are so right that we often, “don’t want to bother God,” with the little things in life. He tells us that we should bring all things to him. No wonder so many things don’t turn out well when we just think, “Oh I can do this myself!” Last year for instance, I was just dropping something off at church and I hit the curb which I had never done before. When I got out to ensure that I hadn’t damaged the tire that hit the curb, I noted a huge spike in the tire on the other side … would have been a huge problem on the road in a few days. He is definitely in the little things. God Bless you.

    Amen Ashley!

Ashley, such a beautiful message of how God takes care of even the little things in our lives. We need not worry!
