On The Wings Of Eagles

Listen to this devotional:
Listen while you read: "Praise The Saviour Ye Who Know Him"1 (Lyrics)

Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (NRSV)

The crisp chill of winter has bid its farewell where I live in Bochum, Germany. In its place, spring has heralded its arrival, with fresh breezes rippling through grasses scattered with colourful bursts of daffodils, awakening the world from its frosty slumber.

I have embraced this change of season by making my first attempts at gardening. For the last three years, I have been in convalescence from burnout and depression. Consequently, fighting fatigue, fear, and low mood has been a daily struggle. Recently, however, I have felt strong enough to venture outdoors. Being in the fresh air, with the rich, dark earth sifting through my fingers and the sun caressing my face, is extremely therapeutic. While I work, I thank God for His goodness, and I trust Him with further improvement in my health in His perfect timing.

Yesterday, the cheerful chittering of birdsong drew me outside to the garden. As I drank my morning coffee, watching the swallows flying above me, I was fascinated by their dipping and soaring. I saw a similarity between my feathered friends and myself: Just as the birds rely on the air to keep them airborne, so, too, will I continue to put my life in God's hands.

Furthermore, as I wait in faith, God will continue to renew my strength until I, too, like the birds, will soon mount my wings and triumphantly soar, fully recovered and ready to start a new, exciting chapter of my life under the loving provision of the Lord.

Friends, if circumstances have left you feeling weak, spend time with God today, and rest in His presence. Have faith in Him as you wait with hope and expectation, and He will renew your strength. You will be able to find joy in life again, regardless of its challenges, because you are lifted like an eagle to soar with God's might and power!

Prayer: Precious and loving Father, thank You that when we are weak, we can find refuge in You. Teach us to wait faithfully in Your presence, while You strengthen us in Your perfect timing. Amen.

    Hello
Thank you for an inspiring devotional. There is so much comfort waiting in His presence, if we would learn to spend more time there and know this is where we belong.
    God bless.

Your writing spoke to me, experiencing for the first time in my life, the kind of “burnout and depression” that you have had.
    The verse was very appropriate.
Thank you and may God bless the time you spend with him.

    Dear Madeline,
Thank you for sharing of the valley, and of your taking refuge in the shelter of His wings. How faithful indeed is our God, and your encouragement to all of us who have that valley, or one day will, are words of hope. I join you in your prayer!
    Blessings now and always,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your devotional today “On the wings of Eagles”. I am in my seventies, recently sold my house, and left my garden behind. I also found it very therapeutic to work in the garden, planting, weeding, pruning, etc. So, having moved into a condo I have 10 large pots full of various plants…. not quite the same, but it still allows me to watch God’s wonderful creation.
Thanks for the post and the memories it brings back for me.

    Good morning Madeline,
Living in this world is difficult. My husband passed unexpectedly. That leaves me not wanting to get out of bed. I tend to stare into blank spaces. My joy comes from knowing he is in God’s perfect kingdom. He is where he wants to be and I wouldn’t pull him away from that, though I miss him tremendously, he is free of the burden of this world.
May you know God is in control. The world dishes out meanness, but God gives us blessings.

Thank you for your devotional and I love that text from Isaiah 40 and then go on to Isaiah 41 and claim verses 10 and 13 which two different women have helped me to repeat and refer to often. I also have been blessed in reading the Psalms and Proverbs every day and end both books at the end of the month. We need that wisdom literature and remember Proverbs is the only book in the Bible with 31 chapters—one for every day!! Blessings.

Danke sehr, Madeline Twooney, for your inspiring Devotional:
I was very encouraged in my daily walk with Christ by your Devotional today.
I was also very encouraged because we share some things in common, besides our devotion and love for the Lord.
I consider myself half German due to marriage to my German better half. My Frau and I spoke German at home.
Sadly, she passed away last year after over 50 years of happy marriage. She in her eternal home with the Lord! Amen.
    Blessings.

Madeline, thank you for your devotional.
I pray that your health will continue to improve.
To pray and have faith are the best ways for keeping our spiritual and physical health.

Dear Madeline – thank you for this devotional. This passage in Isaiah is one of my favorite passages. Thank you too for sharing your struggles. I think when we share our struggles that others in the same or similar situation feel hope that they are not alone in their struggles. I hope that God has led you to garden as a way of healing you. God Bless you and keep you always.

    Dear Madeline Twooney,
    Thank you for your devotional.
In fact, “God so loved the world” (including, all persons– including you)
“that he gave his only Son so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life” (john 3:16). This is His promise for you and me and for everyone who stakes his or her life on His promise.
    Keep writing.

Bless you for your thoughtfulness and wisdom.
