An inheritance is something passed down from parents to their children or other persons named in their will. As a child of my parents, I inherited their cottage when they passed away. When my husband and I retired, almost twenty years ago, we moved into it and began to renovate it as our retirement home.
When we accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, by faith, we become God's children, adopted into the family of God, our heavenly Father. As His sons and daughters, therefore, we can expect to receive the inheritance that He has prepared for us. The Bible testifies to this fact over and over again.
John 1:12 – But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (NLT)
1 John 3:1a – See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! (NLT)
God loves us so much that He wants us to know that we belong to Him. The Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts and tells us that we really are God's children. We know who He is, and we know who we are: Abba Father and His children, His sons and daughters.
Romans 8:15b-17a – You received God's Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, "Abba, Father." For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God's children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. (NLT)
Ephesians 1:14 – The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him. (NLT)
When we belong to Jesus, our inheritance is guaranteed.
1 Peter 1:3-4 – All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance — an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. (NLT)
Who wouldn't want to inherit that?!
Just as we will leave an earthly inheritance to our children some day, we can also leave a heavenly inheritance to our children when we teach them how good our God is by the way we live and show our love for God and others.
To God be the glory!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that we are Your beloved children, that You know each one of us by name, and that You know exactly what we need and when we need it. Thank You for being our Abba Father, our good, good Father, and for what You are doing in our lives. Thank You for our inheritance — eternal life in heaven — through faith in Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to be living examples to those around us so that they, too, can inherit all that is waiting for them. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Dear Dee,
What a vivid illustration for a call to prayer. I will remember to pray whenever I hear a siren. Also, such a comfort to know that others pray for us.
