As we prepared for our long trip, my husband purchased a product to put on the windshield so that rain will bead up on it. He got the car ready as I packed. When we travel, we always take turns driving. As we left, with my husband driving, it was sunny and warm. When we switched drivers, the weather also switched, and rain began to fall. As I turned on the wipers, I was pleasantly surprised to see the rain beading up on my side, but on the other side of the windshield, the water was not beading up at all, much to my confusion. My husband then replied, "You got me good! I put the product only on the driver's side, because I figured that I would be driving during the rain, so my side would have been clear and your side streaked." We laughed about how his plan to fool me backfired!

Today, as I drove alone to do errands, the heavens opened and the rains came down heavily. This has been a very dry summer, so the rain is a welcomed sight. Much to my amazement, the water began to bead on the windshield on both sides. I realized that at some point this summer, unbeknownst to me, my husband had applied the product to the other side of the windshield. As I said a silent thank you to my husband for taking care of this for me, I began to reflect on how our Father in heaven cares for us.

Psalm 95:7 – For he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today! (NLT)

I was humbled as I spent time reflecting on all the times when Jesus has gone before me. He does this for me without my even being aware of it at times. He is always into the details of our lives, whether we acknowledge it or not. He will never stop taking care of the specifics, whether big or small. At times, He seems so far away, but I believe that if we take time to reflect and allow Him to show us, He will make us aware of His work in our lives.

What about you? Are you allowing the One who gave His life for us to walk beside you through this journey? How about the time you made a decision, then changed your mind, or went a different way to work, only to find out that you missed a traffic jam by the change of your plan? Jesus was a part of this decision and this plan. He wants to be with us during all our times.

Psalm 23:6 – Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, at times we go about life not taking the time to recognize You in our walk. We are sorry for this. Thank You for Your unfailing love for us and for going to the cross so that we may have eternal life with You. Help us to acknowledge You more and more each day as we walk and grow with You. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Thanks, Julie, for the good reminder.

Good to see you here again…I miss you on connect.

Julie – thank you for this devotional. Yes, many people talk about “luck” or chance. However, there is only God’s grace – in situations large and small He intervenes for us. May God continue to bless your writing.

Thank you, Julie, for sharing this devotional with us. Thank God for attentive and loving husbands! As a widow, I appreciate mine more than ever, especially when it comes to the chores he did as a matter of course. Blessings.

I relate to this in more than one way.
I have been a passenger driving through Barrie’s weather, especially in winter. On the way home when you get past Barrie the weather totally changes!
But the important thing is the Lord DOES care about the smallest details of our lives. I have experienced it many times. Thank you, Lord, and thank you for reminding us all of this truth.

Going a different way – I feel if we are really listening we are being told turn here. We used to drive to Florida for a few weeks and one in particular stood out we had stopped for a gas and a break. We sat at the picnic table with the map and decided (we thought) to stay on I-75 until a certain turn off but as we were getting close I said to my husband to get off here. I feel it is urgent we get off here. Later we heard on the radio breaking news just past the exit we were originally going to take. There has been a terrible crash with a transport truck and several cars just by the rest area. I no longer remember all the details but I believe we got a warning (I called it my angel) telling us to go home a different way. Let me tell you when one or both of us get the feeling we are to go a different way, we do.
    Thanks for your devotionals.

    Thank you.

    Hello Julie
Loved this, thank you. It always amazes me when I think back of how I was going to do or go and something changed and for the better. I know God has His way and so thankful for the gentle guiding voice He has for His children.
    God bless
