Psalm 51:7 – Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. (NIV)
When I was a child, Ivory soap advertisements claimed that its product was 99 and 44/100ths percent pure. I do recall that this soap sloughed the dirt from my hands and feet just fine. Ivory also had the amazing property of floating on the surface of the water. It couldn't sink and be lost at the bottom of the tub where it could be stepped on, causing a person to slip and fall.
To those of us who are Christians, a parallel to Jesus Christ comes to mind. The Bible reports that Jesus walked on the surface of the water. He was unsinkable! Those who trust in Jesus will also be less apt to slip and fall.
Note that I didn't say failure was impossible. It's just less likely when we trust Jesus to strengthen us. A primary tenet of the Christian faith is that when we do slip and dirty our soul with sin, Jesus' blood washes us whiter (that is, purer) than snow. Those who believe in Jesus' sacrifice on Calvary's cross can be confident that when we stand before God on that auspicious day of judgement, we will have been washed whiter than snow. Ironically, even the whitest snow is made of crystallized water vapour around a particle of dirt to form a flake!
Jesus' blood truly does make us pure because, unlike a snowflake or Ivory soap, which is only 99 and 44/100ths percent pure, through His sacrifice, Jesus will have made us 100 percent pure when we stand before the Lord.
Thought: The blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin.
Action: Place your trust in Jesus Christ and you'll be eternally thankful.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we praise Your holy name for Your sacrifice that cleanses us of our sin when we trust in You. We place our trust in You. Thank You, Lord Jesus. Amen.
