A Valentine Devotional

I've been thinking of Valentine's Day and how the heart is a symbol of love. Our church has a breakfast on the first Monday of the month, and I usually try to have some kind of related treat if there is a special day in that month. And so, in the local Christian bookstore, I bought a couple of packages of Valentine cards to pass out on Monday, February the first.

The messages spoke to me:

"Jesus thinks you're special!" "God loves you!" "God made you special!"

Then these Scripture verses came to mind:

Jeremiah 31:3b – I have loved you with an everlasting love. (NKJV)

Matthew 11:28 – Come unto me … and I will give you rest. (KJV)

Isaiah 43:1 – I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine! (NKJV)

What can be more important as we come to the "day of love" than to remember the greatest love of all, that of our heavenly Father, Who gave us the greatest gift of all: His only Son?

John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends. (NKJV)

And all that He asks of us is, "Be Mine!"

Prayer: Lord, help us to recognize that there is no love greater than Yours and that You want us to have it. May we accept this gift of love and learn how to give it to others in Your name. Thank You for everything. Amen.

Well done Ruth. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Great reminder Ruth, and Happy Valentine’s Day.

You have such a great ministry by sending these. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!

Enjoyed your devotional, Ruth. Keep them coming. Love the “Daily” and often share them.

    Amen Ruth.

    Dear Ruth,
Thank you for the lovely Valentine’s devotional.

Thanks for the great valentine message and prayer.
    God Bless.

Thanks for a timely reminder of the love we can so easily take for granted. He never gives up on us. Praise the Lord!

Amen, Ruth. Our sermon this morning said much the same thing. It’s wonderful how God always confirms His message to us! Blessings.

    Hi Ruth,
Enjoyed reading your devotional this a.m. reflecting on the great love our Lord has for us.
    Blessings to you,

Loved your idea of giving out valentine’s at your church breakfast. I also liked your selection of Bible verses. God is calling you to this ministry of special treats (as you called it). I am sure many of these people would not receive a Valentine from anyone. Getting one from you, as a servant of God would be SO special. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and God Bless you.

    Hello Ruth
It had been a while since I have seen one of your Presbycan messages.
Thank you for the Valentine reminders that you were able to share in your church group’s breakfasts.
I am sure that these might be the only ones some of these people might get and to have various verses of God’s love to them would be a special message and reminder to them of how important they are in His sight.
    Thank you

    Dear Ruth,
Thanks for your “Valentine card.” I enjoy it’s verses of love.
Jesus teaches us that the first and greatest commandment is, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…. And … you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” ( Mt. 22:37,39 NKJV).
Thank you, Ruth for a lovely Valentine devotional.
