A Cloud Story

by Rosemary Hagedorn

Have you ever taken the time to watch the clouds roll by as you are lying on your back on the soft green grass or sitting in a comfortable chair? I have.

The free encyclopedia, Wikipedia, says that a cloud is a visible mass of liquid droplets or frozen crystals made of water or various chemicals suspended in the atmosphere above the surface of a planetary body.

Clouds come in many shapes and sizes. Stratus are low clouds that often cover the entire sky, resembling fog; altostratus are middle clouds; cirrus are high clouds, usually thin and wispy; and cumulus clouds are puffy and look like giant pieces of cotton floating in the sky.

I love looking at clouds. Sometimes, I see a dragon floating across the sky, and at other times, I see a fluffy bunny rabbit or a puppy chasing a ball.

Sometimes, clouds reveal an oncoming thunderstorm, snow, or hail, and every now and then, an oncoming tornado. When such warning signs are given, they are to be respected and acted upon.

This idea of clouds and signs made me think of signs prophesied in the Bible that we should watch for and that warn us that the second coming of Christ is imminent.

Matthew 24:30 – And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. (NASB)

Revelation 1:7 – Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. (NASB)

Prayer: Lord God, open our eyes and ears to see and understand Your wonderful and mysterious plan. Fill us with Your love, and help us to love as You love. Give us the courage and wisdom to speak and proclaim Your ongoing work of bringing all things together under one, namely Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord. Amen.

    A good word Rosemary.

Rosy, Thanks again for giving a beautiful devotion and the analogy of our Lord’s return. I can’t wait to see Him in the clouds.

    Good thoughts Rosy,
    I liked the surprise ending.
And He shall reign forever and ever. Amen
    Blessings.

    Lovely visual Rosemary.
I, too, love looking at the skies and cloud formations. We’re alike in that.
Great thought to begin the week with.
    God bless.

    Good Morning Rosemary:
A beautiful soft and challenging message.
Thank you for the message of great interest, it really made me realize of how careless I have become concerning the second coming.

Hi Rosy, I enjoyed your devotional today. It reminded me of an experience I had coming home from a doctor appointment; the clouds looked like beautiful hills against the blue backdrop of the sky. Immediately, I thought of Psalm 121:1 as if the Lord was using the clouds to get my attention. Thanks for sharing this encouraging message.
    Blessings.

Waiting expectantly to see our Lord coming in the clouds of glory. Help us to be found waiting and reaching out to unsaved friends and relatives.

Yes I too love to watch the wondrous cloud formations over Juan de Fuca Strait from my home, and marvel at their shapes and character. But when our Lord returns in majesty and power I do not intend to mourn.
    I enjoy your contributions.
    Many Blessings.
