Listen while you read: "Lord Speak To Me"1 (Lyrics) |
Proverbs 15:31-32 – He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. (NIV)
I wasn't at all happy when I discovered that I couldn't read the words on a page any more, no matter how long my arm was. I was even less happy when I had to purchase my first pair of reading glasses. And I was even more unhappy when I realized what a nuisance it was to have to put the glasses on and take them off constantly. And believe it or not, I was even more unhappy, if that's even possible, when I realized just how often I couldn't even find the glasses, due to the fact that I was putting them on and off all day long. But I must admit that I was most happy to be able to read again.
Eyeglasses are very important if we want to see the things we need to see and do the things we want to do. They provide the necessary help to sharpen our sight and bring life into focus.
When King David took another man's wife and she became pregnant, seeking to hide what he had done, he issued orders to have the woman's husband placed in the direct line of fire amidst battle. Subsequently, he was killed. David took the woman to live with him in the palace and fooled himself into thinking that he had done nothing wrong. In due time, however, the Lord sent the prophet Nathan to rebuke David for his sin. David's eyes were opened, which led him to confess, repent, and experience God's healing (2 Samuel 11-12).
Sometimes, God still uses other people to act as eyeglasses in regard to the areas in our life which also need cleansing and healing. When this happens, how shall we choose? Will we ignore the discipline and despise ourselves, or like King David, a man after God's own heart, will we heed correction and gain understanding?
Prayer: Father God, at times it can be very difficult for us to accept the truth about ourselves. Grant us humility and wisdom to heed Your life-giving correction in whatever form it arrives, that we might gain understanding and be at home among the wise. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.

Thanks Lynne. Another good one.
Good morning Lynne, very nicely written! God Bless you.
Lord may be be eyeglasses for others today and even more for ourselves.
Beautiful analogy. Keep writing.
Blessings.
I am learning this lesson a bit more every day and at times what I see isn’t too pleasant. However, it is through such new sight we grow. Right?
Thanks Lynne.
Thanks for the eye-opening message today Lynne. I liked the way you linked Proverbs to the example of King David. May it be a lesson for all of us.
Blessings.
Hi Lynne:
Thanks for sharing your Devotionals with us.
A peculiar thought hit me as I read your tale of King David’s temptation & repentance, especially where you reminded us that David was “a man after God’s own heart”.
Remembering that we are made in God’s image & likeness, I wonder whether this refers to God’s need for correction as well …?
Another example would be that we can’t see ourselves (just as God can’t see him/her self?). Even mirrors are inverted reflections of our real appearance.
The universe and all creation (God?) is constantly growing & changing.
Perhaps part of mankind’s role is to give lessons to God, just as our children & animals teach us.
Anyway, thanks for something new to ponder!

Thank you.
Hi Lynne, thank you for sharing with us today. I enjoyed what you shared. I always ask God for awareness of my faults and for his guidance to do his will and not mine. Again, Thank You.
Dear Lynne,
I must admit that I couldn’t wait until you finally quit denying that you needed glasses! Smile Your analogy: sometimes, we need to quit denying that God has a message for us. When we “see the light,” so to speak, things become clear to what we need to hear or do. Thanks for bringing us the awareness of this need. God bless you, real good. I do enjoy reading your devotionals. God bless.
Well done for this write up!
Our friends need to tell us the truth and not comfort us with lies.
Infact as I read the intro, it was as if I had shared my experience with you.
I was introduced into wearing glasses very recently. Before, I’ve never worn one. Its photchromic though. I’m getting used to it by seeing it as an accessory.
Thank You.
